Sibley 500 Standard
The Sibley 500 tent allows you to roll up the sides of the tent so on a scorching afternoon you can lounge under canvas, enjoying the breezy shade beneath. Ideal if you need to stay in the shade all day without melting, or you’re planning a camping trip abroad. Our Sibley 500 Standard tent is our lightest 5 m tent because it has a separate, lightweight groundsheet - the canvas weight on all of our Sibley Tents is the same, only the groundsheet options are different.
The 500 is ideal for 4 glampers on queen beds or as many as 8 campers on sleeping pads.
The Standard is our floorless bell tent with an attached sod flap in the traditional canvas tent style. The lightest of the Sibley Series, the Standard is perfect for backyard shades, play areas, garden parties, storage, shower rooms, cooking areas, reenactments, survivalists, and those who just want to feel the grass between their toes. The side walls can be rolled up or staked to the ground with elastic loops. Every Standard includes a detached oxford polyethylene tarp sized to fit the footprint of the tent. If your application requires a floor check out the Deluxe, Ultimate, or our heavy duty Pro Series!
Made of the same lightly treated, water resistant, 100% cotton canvas as our Deluxe and Ultimate Series which (like all our Sibley’s) bears the Seal of Cotton®.
The Standard is our traditional floorless tent. Without a floor to attach to, the side walls are easily rolled up and neatly stored under the eaves with a loop and tie system. Elastic loops around the bottom of the side wall can be staked to the ground for privacy and protection. Every Standard comes with a detached oxford polyethylene footprint (180 gr/m² or 5.30 oz/yd²) sized to the tent, also known as a ground tarp. Unsure if you need a floor for your application? Take a peek at our Ultimate or Pro Series which feature a zip in/out detachable floor for the best of both worlds!
Traditionally canvas tents did not include floors and instead relied on a sod flap to seal the tent against wind and critters. The Standard’s sod flap is a 23cm (9 inchs) PVC flap sewn onto the bottom of the side wall that lies inside the tent on the ground. It can be covered with the footprint/tarp/ground cloth that is included with the Standard. For a more traditional approach a small trench can be dug around the perimeter of the tent and the sod flap can be covered with the dirt and rocks from the trench. The trench then can act as a gutter system, catching rain falling on and around the tent and mitigating the effect of standing water saturating the earth underneath the tent.
The Sibley’s signature A-frame door allows for easy entry and exit, and holds the canvas at 90 degrees from the ground preventing rain from falling into the tent when moving in and out. Spring loaded poles snap together quickly for easy set up and fold together for fast take down and organized storage. The floor is equipped with two stirrups which hold the foot poles of the A-frame securely in place. The top of the A-frame door is equipped with a pin that sits in a grommet at the peak of the door ensuring proper placement. A rain cap is then placed over the pin and grommet to keep rain from running down the poles. The canvas door zips together vertically and along the bathtub floor. Each side of the door is equipped with loops and ropes to neatly tie back the doors to hold them open when not in use.
Every Sibley is compatible with a Sibley Connector, a bow-tie shaped attachment that can be used as an awning.
Standard Stakes and Pegs
The Standard stakes and pegs are designed for easy insertion and removal from average earth, like grass or forest floor. The stakes for the guy lines are curved like a shovel to securely hold tension in the ground, and have a lip at the top to prevent the guy line from slipping off. The pegs for the floor are round to slip through the grommets on the groundsheet, and have a hook shaped top and hold the floor in place. All standard stakes and pegs measure 22cm (8.6 inches). If your application requires the heavy duty stakes for high wind or hard, rocky, or frozen ground, check out our Pro Series.
Spring Loaded Poles
Internal spring loaded wires guide the pole sections together for quick and easy assembly. The included poles on the Sibley Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate models are made of durable nickel plated steal. The door poles are 20mm (.79 inch) and the center pole is 28mm (1.1 inches). The center pole has a welded lanyard ring which can be used to hang an inner tent or chandelier.
Windows and Vents
Every Sibley comes complete with windows and vents covered in no-see-um mesh to keep the bugs out while providing ventilation and airflow. Our half-moon windows have zip up covers to allow you to customize your desired level of ventilation and privacy. Each window is equipped with loop fasteners to neatly hold the covers when the windows are unzipped. There are 4 windows and 4 vents on the Sibley 500.
Durable Guy Lines and Tensioners
Our Standard series comes with 3mm guy ropes that will need to be tied on before your first pitch. Check out our assembly instructions in the Specifications tab to get a feel for the initial set up process. Our Pro Series comes with pre-attached guy lines and tensioners for those customers looking for an out-of-the-box set up. Plastic tensioners prevent edges from cutting into the guy lines and prolong the life of your tent.
Optional Mesh Door
A mesh door compatible with the Sibley 500 Standard is sold separately as an optional accessory.
Our Classic Canvas (320 gr/m² or 9.5 oz/yd²) on the Ultimate, Deluxe, and Standard series is the perfect balance of performance and breathability. Our proprietary treatment enhances the natural water resistance of canvas, and is excellent protection for moderate climates and casual use. Repairable and retreatable, a properly maintained Classic Canvas tent can last for years. Double stitched, flat-felled roof and side wall seams, seam gussets, and double-layer construction at all stress points create a classic and durable bell tent. For variable climates, four season, or long term use check out our Pro canvas on the Pro and ProTech Series.
100% Cotton canvas provides a natural waterproofing and breathability. Cotton fibers swell when damp, the tight weave prevents rain from penetrating and the surface tension of moisture drops on the outside combined with the steep angle of the canopy allows water to bead and run off. Moisture held in the air on the inside is still able to escape directly through the fabric, keeping internal humidity low and mitigating condensation. Note that most of the humidity in the tent enters through the ground, the Standard is floorless so if you’re going to be in a damp or humid environment look to our other Sibley Series tents which all feature water and vapor impenetrable floors.

100% Cotton Canvas
Our Sibley canvas is made exclusively from 100% cotton. Cotton is made from the seed hair of this hardy and drought tolerant plant. Sustainable, renewable, and one of the most biodegradable fabrics on earth. Our canvas is a soft, natural, earthy beige that glows inside and out with natural or artificial light. CanvasCamp is the only tent manufacture to carry the official Seal of Cotton®.
All CanvasCamp tents are easily adaptable for use with a wood burning tent stove. Proper stove placement is dependent on stove size, tent size, flu exit style, desired temperature, and the environment you intend to camp in. One size fits all, pre-installed stove jacks fail to provide customers with the level of customization necessary to achieve ideal stove placement and maximum utility. To ensure proper placement and ideal efficiency, CanvasCamp offers modular stove jacks (sold separately) that can be easily installed in any cotton canvas bell tent in just a few minutes. Stove jacks are available in a variety of shapes and sizes so you can choose the jack that fits your tent and stove perfectly.
Read our blog or contact us to learn more about the best stove and placement for your specific application.
